TRAFFIC COUNTS

Traffic counting provides an important base for short and long range transportation planning in an area. NIRCC is responsible for collecting and recording traffic count data for more than 2,000 traffic count links just within Allen County. NIRCC also collects traffic data in the small urban and rural areas in Adams, DeKalb and Wells Counties. In addition, we assist the Indiana Department of Transportation by collecting information on highways under their jurisdiction.
Traffic Counts
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), there are many benefits to having a well-maintained traffic count program.  Traffic counting program helps NIRCC   determine volumes, types of vehicles, and the weight of trucks using the highway network in the NIRCC coverage area.
 NIRCC is able to provide...
  • Information critical to the general administration of highway programs.
  • Data fundamental to determining vehicle miles of travel.
  • Project design parameters.
  • Highway Classification.
  • The level of surface provided by a highway facility.
